Big White Racers get their first Speed experience
2006/02/22
It was their first speed event for many first year FIS racers as they participated in the Mars Cup Grand Prix Super G and Downhill at Apex Resort February 9-15, 2006.
On the mens side, it was 2nd year FIS veteran Evan Moore with the fastest time amongst Big White Racers all four days. Evan placed 23rd & 13th in Super G & 12th & 17th in Downhill. Next down in Super G was Brandon Witt, placing 24th & 27 respectively. Following him was Dustin Koepke 35th & 36th, Cory Baldwin 48th & 55th, Quinn Binkley 52 & 58th, Sean Burns 56th & 63, Bryce Elliot 60th & 71st, Kyle Spence 63rd & 64th, Jade Davidson 65th & 70th and Daniel Newmarch DNF & 38th. In the Downhill, Koepke was the 2nd fastest Big White Racer finishing 26th & 33rd. Witt was 40th & 45th, Baldwin 50th & 52nd, Spence 59th & 57th, Burns 60th & 58th and Davidson 62 & 63. 75 racers participated.

For veteran Kelsey Serwa, a 2nd year FIS skier, it was all about going fast, and her results proved her game plan. Kelsey came home with 6 gold medals and 2 silver, placing first overall and in the J1 catagory in both Super G events and the final Downhill. She narrowly missed the gold on the first day of Downhill, placing a close 2nd overall and J1. This just pushed her to go harder finishing more than a second faster than her teammate Elli Terwiel from the Okanagan Ski Team on the final day. First timers Brittney Jones & Alli Entwistle had great finishes with Jones placing 51st & 50th in Super G & Entwistle finishing 53rd & 50th. In Downhill, Jones detoured into the nets on the first day but finished a remarkable 29th on day two. Entwistle was 44th both days. Sarah Kuipers returned from school exams to participate in the Downhill events and placed 51st & 49th. 66 racers from six different countries participated.
